Feud As Asylum Boat Is Towed Out

A boat carrying 14 Kurdish asylum seekers was towed out to sea off Melville Island yesterday as the political feud over its arrival intensified last night. The Federal Government and the Opposition were blaming each other over the landing in Australia of the Indonesian fishing vessel. The Prime Minister, John Howard, accused Labor of making it easier for illegal immigrants to gain access because it had vowed to block in the Senate moves to excise almost 4000 islands from the migration zone.
