Fishing with, AARON DONALDSON

THE fishing has been simply fantastic this week.

Flathead have been the main drawcard in the estuaries where they have turned up in plentiful numbers.

Specimens of up to five kilograms are being landed.

The best action is in the Brisbane Water from the half-tide rocks in the east to Paddys Channel in the west.

Live baits are proving their worth on the bigger fish, and soft plastics have also been handy.

Bream have also been turning up in good numbers.

Anglers are having great fun landing them on lures.

Rumours abound of a bream lure-fishing competition in January, and more information will be given as soon as it comes to hand.

Jewfish have been running along the ocean beaches, mainly smaller school-sized fish, but the occasional 25kg-plus specimens have fallen to well-presented baits.

Anglers at North Entrance Beach are having particular success on these enigmatic sports fish with a lure called the Storm Swim Shad.

Offshore, the warmer waters have still not shown up, leaving slim pickings for anglers.
