DAPTO Citizens Bowling Club has been in operation for 48 years and this shows in its wide range of sporting and entertainment facilities.
Located on Fowlers Road, Dapto, the club was founded on the same premises by brothers Bill and Alan Bailey, as a breakaway club to the Dapto Bowling Club.The club is well known for hosting the annual bowling carnival that is held in March every year, attracting competitors from all over the region.Secretary-manager Troy Somerville is in charge of the smooth running of the club."Every second Saturday night there is live entertainment," Troy said. "On Saturday July 1, the South Coast Country Music Association will be giving a performance, while on July 15, singer Jo Vill will be there."On the alternate Saturdays, the function area is closed off for wedding receptions and other special functions.A catering team makes sure that the function runs smoothly so that guests can relax and enjoy themselves."Dapto Citizens Bowling Club also holds concert shows every two months with the popular John Denver Concert Show held recently," Troy said. "The Neil Diamond Concert Show is coming up soon."Besides the usual bar facilities and Keno, there are several other attractions.Every Friday night there are meat raffles - all 41 trays of them - plus bonus prizes. On the last Friday of every month, over $1000 worth of electrical and white goods can be won. With every $5 spent, ticket holders have a chance of winning.The club has an excellent Palms Bistro with a variety of food ranging from Malaysian, Singaporean, Thai, Chinese and Australian - diners are certainly spoilt for choice.Lunch is 12pm to 2pm Wednesday to Sunday and dinner is from 5.30pm to 8.30pm Wednesday to Monday.There are specials on offer with an $11 buffet on Friday and Saturday nights plus on Sunday night a three-course meal is available for only $5."This includes soup of the day, a main course and a dessert," Troy said. "For the main course, diners can heap their plate up as much as they want but the plate can only be filled once.""The big drop screen is proving very popular with sporting fans, particularly soccer ones at the moment," Troy said. "The projector extends from the roof so it's huge.""Bingo is held three times a week and there's a courtesy bus available six nights a week except Thursday as that's the only quiet evening."Social bowls is on every day except Monday, with ladies' bowling on Tuesday and Thursday."A 'decent-sized' fishing club holds seafood raffles once a month."Patrons and their guests are assured of plenty of secure parking.The Dapto Citizens Bowling Club likes to be involved in the community with generous grants given annually to several charities.Club opening hours are 9am to midnight weekends and 9am to 10pm weekdays.Dapto Citizens Bowling Club is located on Fowlers Road, Dapto and can be contacted on 4261 1344.
